FAQ
Straight answers about how Latus works.
Straight answers about how Latus works, what it replaces, and what it doesn't.
Do you replace my surveyor?
No. Latus is a Part 107-licensed, insured drone operator — we provide visual documentation and indicative quantities for business conversations, not legal surveying or boundary determination. We work alongside your surveyor, not in place of them. When you need licensed survey data, we'll flag it and you can pull your surveyor in. The annotated orthomosaic and the surveyor's as-built are complementary, not competitive.
What if we already use DroneDeploy or OpenSpace?
Great. We can ingest exports from DroneDeploy, OpenSpace, or your existing tools, or we can fly ourselves. Either way, we turn that capture into a weekly decision packet that PMs, supers, and owners can act on.
Who owns the imagery and data?
You do. We host a technical archive during the project and can hand off a full bundle at closeout. We don't lock your data behind a platform or charge storage fees to access it.
Will drone flights disrupt active work on site?
No. We schedule flights around your active work fronts and coordinate with your super on access and safety. Most captures take under an hour on site and we stay clear of equipment, crews, and traffic.
What areas do you cover?
We're based in Denver, Colorado and serve active project areas including Miami, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. If your site is outside those regions, reach out — we take on select projects elsewhere.
How long does it take to get the packet?
Standard turnaround is within 24 hours of capture, delivered the same day each week. Most packets ship next business day. Twenty-four hours is the guaranteed service level.
Can the packet be customized for our project?
Yes, within the fixed four-page structure. Zone names, callout conventions, and the media page focus adapt to how your team talks about the site. We keep the packet shape consistent so PMs and owners always know where to look — but the content inside reflects your project, not a template.
What can't Latus do?
We don't do legal surveys, boundary determinations, engineering documents, BIM models, or subsurface analysis. If you need any of those, we'll tell you — and we'll tell you who you need to call.
How do you know what happened on site without a daily report from us?
We compare this week's aerial capture against last week's. Vision AI identifies what changed — new material, removed material, excavation, staging — and classifies surface types from above. Every claim in the packet is labeled **observed**, **indicative**, **expected**, or **forecast**. Nothing is invented.
Do you offer daily reporting or autonomous drone capture?
Not yet. We fly once per week. Daily reporting via autonomous drone-in-a-box is on the roadmap but not available today. If your project needs more frequent captures during an active phase, we can discuss twice-weekly cadence.
What makes Latus different from hiring a drone pilot?
A drone pilot delivers raw imagery. Latus delivers a decision-ready PDF — flight planning, capture, processing, interpretation, and the packet, every week. We don't hand you files and walk away. We hand you a briefing a PM can read in 60 seconds.
What's the cancellation policy?
Cancel anytime with 30 days notice. No long-term contracts. No termination fees. You pay for the months you use. We earn your business every month — if the packet isn't delivering value, you shouldn't be paying for it.
What happens to my data when the project ends?
We hand off the full archive — raw imagery, orthomosaics, point clouds, and all packet PDFs. No platform to log into, no export fees. We keep a copy for quality assurance and portfolio use with your permission. If you want everything deleted, we'll confirm it in writing within 30 days.
What happens when weather prevents a flight?
We monitor weather conditions the evening before and morning of every scheduled capture. If weather, a TFR (temporary flight restriction), or any other condition prevents a safe flight, we reschedule — no charge, no drama. We build buffer days into every capture schedule for exactly this reason. You're not paying for missed flights.
Are there contract minimums?
No minimum term. Month-to-month. Most clients stay with us because the packet becomes indispensable — not because they're locked in. Start with one month. If it works, keep going. See our cancellation policy for details on how to wrap up.
How accurate are your measurements?
Our Matrice 4E drone uses built-in RTK (real-time kinematic) positioning for survey-grade accuracy: ±2–5 cm horizontal and ±5–10 cm vertical. Volumes derived from our elevation models are measured at ±3–5% accuracy — suitable for budget tracking, progress billing, and pay-app support conversations. For certified payment quantities or legal claims, the project surveyor's stamp is still required. We're not licensed surveyors, and we'll tell you when to call yours.
What's in the technical archive?
Every packet includes a technical archive: RTK-co-registered GeoTIFF orthomosaic (±2–5 cm horizontal), LAS/LAZ point cloud, DSM (±5–10 cm vertical), and the full raw imagery set from our Matrice 4E. We host it for the project duration plus 30 days after closeout. On handoff, you get a direct download or shared drive link — no platform, no export fees. Your VDC or engineering team can open it in any standard GIS or CAD software.
So you're a drone company?
No. Latus is a managed reporting service. The drone is a tool we use — like a total station or a laser scanner. What we sell is the decision-ready PDF packet that arrives in your inbox every week. We handle flight planning, Part 107-certified capture, photogrammetric processing, interpretation, and packet assembly. You don't buy a drone, you don't learn to fly, you don't process orthomosaics. You get a briefing you can forward.
Can I use Latus packets for subcontractor disputes or insurance claims?
Yes. Every packet is timestamped, dated, and georeferenced — built specifically to serve as visual evidence when something is contested. Page 2 (annotated orthomosaic) shows exactly what was on site that day with zone labels matching your project drawings. Page 3 (change page) provides side-by-side week-over-week comparison so you can prove what moved and what didn't. Page 4 (curated media) delivers 8–12 captioned, directional, dated photos — close-ups you can forward directly to an adjuster, an owner's rep, or a sub. We are not licensed surveyors and our quantities are indicative (±10–15%), so for legal-grade evidence you should engage your surveyor. But for the visual proof that settles most disputes — yes, that's exactly what the packet is for.

We'll send a quote and a sample packet tuned to your project type, site size, and cadence. No demo. No platform walkthrough. Just a packet — the same format you'd receive every week. Most quotes ship within one business day.
